Volunteer in Italy - Live and Work on a Family Run Olive Farm

Job Position: Volunteer in Italy – Live and Work on a Family Run Olive Farm
Age Requirement: 25+
Host: Lorenzo
Location: Gavorrano, Tuscany, Italy

I’m a traveler, writer, and now… a proud new farmer! A few months ago, I bought a peaceful little farm with stunning sea views and over a hectare of olive trees here in beautiful Tuscany. It’s just me here at the moment, and while I’ve got big dreams for this place, I can’t do it all alone.

That’s where you come in! 🌱

What I Need Help With

I’m looking for friendly, down-to-earth people to help with some light outdoor and indoor tasks — no heavy lifting or professional skills required, just good vibes and a willingness to lend a hand. Here’s a peek at what we’ll be working on together:

Outside:

  • Tidying up the garden
  • Clearing paths and trimming plants
  • Cleaning the terrace
  • Light maintenance like rebuilding dry stone walls or sprucing up fences
  • Pruning olive trees and (in season) helping with the olive harvest
  • General land care — it’s beautiful here, but nature grows fast!

Inside (if you’re into it):

  • Creative DIY projects or upcycling
  • Helping clean and organize
  • Sewing or crafting homey touches
  • Playing music (instruments welcome!)

I also love art, storytelling, and language exchange — so feel free to bring your creativity along.

About the Place

The farmhouse is rustic and charming, with terracotta floors, exposed beams, and a cozy wood-burning oven in the kitchen. You’ll have your own room, and we’ll share a bathroom (for now — building a second one is on the list!). There’s also a huge terrace with unforgettable sea views and sunsets.

I’m vegetarian and do all the cooking — no need to worry about that. Just bring your appetite and maybe your favorite tea.

Location Highlights

We’re based in a medieval village called Gavorrano, a short walk from town and a quick ride to:

  • Famous Tuscan beaches like Cala Violina and Punta Ala
  • The magical Lago dell’Accesa
  • Natural hot springs like Petriolo and Saturnia
  • Beautiful towns like Massa Marittima, Castiglione della Pescaia, and more

I work online for a travel company, speak several languages, and have written 12 books (ask me about them!). I’m also an experienced host, a big fan of slow living, and I love sharing stories over a good meal.

Who I’m Looking For

You don’t need any farming experience — just a positive attitude, some gardening gloves, and sturdy shoes. This is a relaxed, non-commercial project. The farm is just my home, not a business. I don’t sell products — this is about creating a peaceful, beautiful space with kind people.

I host workawayers for 6–10 days at a time to keep things flowing — if we really click, you’re always welcome to come back.

Please Note

  • No meat/fish cooking in the house
  • No smoking indoors
  • No pets, sorry!
  • Bring your own towel and hygiene items
  • A sleeping bag is helpful in the colder months (the house has no heating)
  • Musical instruments, board games, and creative ideas are always welcome!

If you’re a digital nomad, you’re more than welcome — I love hosting people who work remotely.

There’s also space for camper vans, with a couple of good parking spots nearby.

What to Bring

  • Gardening/work gloves (important!)
  • Good walking/work shoes
  • Your own towel and personal hygiene stuff
  • A sleeping bag (especially if it’s cold)
  • A hat for sun protection in summer
  • If you’re driving, feel free to bring small gardening tools

Getting Here

The closest stations are Gavorrano and Follonica. There’s a local bus that’ll drop you right in Gavorrano Centro — I’ll meet you there. Easy!

How to Apply

If you’re looking to slow down, soak in the beauty of Tuscany, and help breathe life into a beautiful old olive grove — I’d love to welcome you to my home. click Apply Now
